The H. Upmann Magnum 46 is my favorite cigar. This Habanos captures everything I look for in a cigar, flavor, vitola, and body. It is a full flavored cigar that is medium full in body and  is a traditional corona gorda vitola. The Habanos measure 5 and 5/8" in length and has a ring gauge of 46.

The prelight on this stick was of barnyard and had some peppery spice, I love that! Right when I cut it, the draw was perfect, not too tight or loose. The cigar starts off powerful, very rich, lots of peppery spice and some nice wood notes.


H. Upmann is among the oldest cigar marque in existence, dating back to the 1840s. Around 1840, banker Herman Upmann opened a branch office in Havana, Cuba which provided ample opportunity to send cigars home to Europe.The possibilities of a commercial endeavor became clear to Upmann and in 1844 he invested in a cigar factory and the H. Upmann brand was launched. Upmann is sometimes even credited with the invention of packaging cigars in cedar boxes to give to their customers.

At about a third of the way through the power of the Habanos has toned down a little bit and the pepper that was there in the beginning has gone and I am beginning to get some wonderful coffee notes.

All of the tobacco grown for this Habanos is grown in the Vuelta Abajo district of the Pinar del Rio province of western Cuba, southwest of Havana. Pinar del Rio is most likely the most well known regions for growing cigar tobacco in the world, and the tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo district is considered the cream of the crop in the Pinar del Rio province.  

After two-thirds of the way through the Habanos really hasn't changed too much. I am still picking up some mild spice and wood notes but the coffee flavor that I picked up earlier is still present and quite enjoyable.

One of the great things about the H. Upmann Magnum 46 is that the vitola is also sold in packs of 3 tubos, tubes. If you are ever overseas and have the availability to purchase them, I would strongly recommend it. The tubos are gorgeous and provide protection for the cigar, and are easy to sneak back into the States. :-)

I am right at the nub now and the Habanos is just wonderful in flavor. The spices have intensifies towards the end and the coffee has turned into an espresoo flavor. I don't want this  to end! I might have to run indoors and grab another and start all over.

I love the MAG 46's, they are such a great size and really are flavor bombs. One of my friends down in Australia likes to compare this size with the robusto size of H. Upmann's, the Connoisseur #1. He likes to say if the Connoisseur # 1 is jazz, then the MAG 46 is acid jazz. I have never head anyone compare jazz to cigars but I love it, and I think it works. This cigar, compared with the Connoisseur # 1, just has a little more spice and edge to it which really makes it stand out. This Cuban cigar is a must smoke, buy this over anything else. I would give this cigar a 94 on it's worse day. There is really nothing else to say, I love this cigar.
