On March 12th, 2021, Room 101 Cigars announced that they would be releasing their second release in the Ichiban Series , and that the cigar would be a Roxxo vitola going to Scott Faison's Cigar Realm in Ashland, Virginia. The Ichiban Series was first announced at the beginning of the year, and it would be a series of eight releases with the releases going to eight different retailers and being offered in different vitolas each time. The Ichiban Roxxo is the second release thus far, and Booth picked Cigar Realm as one of the retailers due to the relationship he has had with the store and how successful the brand has done there. Cigar Realm has two locations in the Richmond, VA area, and it is seen as the "preeminent retail cigar establishment and lounge," in central Virginia. Cigar Realm is an appointed Davidoff merchant, a member of IPCPR, and a member of Cigar Rights of America. With those introductions, let's take a look at the Room 101 Ichiban Roxxo, the exclusive for Cigar Realm.
Similar to limited edition releases from Room 101 Cigars, the packaging for the Room 101 Ichiban Roxxo is such:
Limited to 1,000 boxes of ten, the Ichiban Roxxo is the second release in the Ichiban Series. The 10,000 cigars were made in Honduras at Agroindustria LAEPE S.A., and this is the home of Room 101, Camacho, and others. The Ichiban Roxxo measures 4" with a 48 ring gauge, and comes with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan Criollo '98 binder, and Nicaraguan Corojo '99 fillers. The cigar comes with a dark colored wrapper that can easily be classified as Maduro in coloring. The petit robusto is firm in hand and the wrapper shows minimal veins while remaining slightly oily in texture. It is smooth overall and has a solid cap applied. The aroma at the foot is that of faint spices, tobacco, damp earth and wood, and it has a nice barnyard aroma. The wrapper is delivering similar qualities, and after cutting the head, there is a nice cold draw with the cigar.
The cigar begins by showing some nice dry earth qualities, and it has a nice tobacco and damp wood quality with that. I am picking up some spice notes on top of that, and it has some serious pepper flavors with that on the finish. There are touches of cocoa present as well, mostly cocoa powder, and it has a faint bit of cafe mocha qualities on the finish. The flavors are full, and it has a nice strength level with that. I would classify the strength as being medium-full, and the body is there as well. It is a balanced smoke and everything plays off of one another to deliver a great smoking experience. The construction thus far is solid and it is showing an even burn line with a nice light charcoal ash on the end. The ash is holding on firmly and there is a solid amount of smoke being delivered with each cool draw on the cigar.
I am in the second third of the cigar now and it is showing some transitioning flavors right now. I am picking up some toasted nut, mostly peanut flavors, and it is delivering those notes on top of some earth and wood flavors. There are touches of cocoa and coffee present as well, and it has a finishing flavors of rich earth, spices, and pepper. It is a balance cigar, and it is accompanied by a nice strength and body level. I would say it is smoking at a medium level now and like the first third, everything is working together to create a great smoking experience. It is a great petit robusto, and it is a smoke I could enjoy in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The construction remains top notch in the final third and it is showing a solid charcoal ash on the end of the cigar. The draw is cool, giving off a nice bit of smoke, and I love the qualities present in the Ichiban Roxxo.
When I get into the final third I find that the spice and pepper notes make a climb and the cigar is finishing with a strong flavor profile. There is a nice earthiness present as well, and it is showing some strong tobacco and wood notes with that. There are touches of cocoa and cafe mocha present as well, but it is still showing those noticeable spice and pepper flavors on the finish. I would classify the cigar as having a medium-full strength and body level, and it has increased from the second third and showing similar qualities to that of the first third. The construction remains perfect in the final third of the cigar and I am getting a solid burn line with a nice firm charcoal ash on the end. The draw is cool, producing a lot of flavors and smoke, and this is a well made cigar that delivers so many positive attributes.
I really liked the Ichiban Roxxo, and besides the fact that I love the size that the Roxxo is, the flavors being delivered were really to my liking. I find that it is a flavor profile that a lot of Room 101 fans can connect with, and while it is different, it reminds me in some ways of the O.S.O.K. and Namakubi Ecuador. It has a nice spicy quality to attract the smokers that like stronger and spicier cigars, but it is balanced by some damp tobacco, wood, and earth flavors to reach out to those smokers. Top it off with those subtle cafe mocha flavors, and the cigar has a lot going for it. It smokes cool from beginning to end and it is a cigar that you can smoke at so many times of the day because of the size. Room 101 has a lot of different offerings, each unique in their own way, and that is the definitely the case for this cigar. With the box price being around $70 for a box of ten, this is a no brainer in my book. Cigar Realm is offering free shipping with the purchase of two boxes, and for the price of two it would be foolish to pass on that deal. If you are like me, you will find yourself smoking through a box rather quickly, and I have smoked five of these since Thursday. This cigar gets a solid 91 rating, and I imagine that the box will be empty by the end of next week.
